We finally head back from the Mayor! We are now securing the date for our flag proposal meeting, but we have a lot of work to do before then!

We created a survey to send to Burlingame residents asking them what they hope to see in the city flag and requesting feedback or preference on our flag designs. We hope to use this kind of research to convince city Council of our design.

Ben and Alex shared their progress on the presentation The rest of the students gave feedback, which we recorded on the whiteboard as notes for revision.

I heard many questions about Alexander Hamilton today: "Was he only a banker?" "Are we listening to the musical today?" "When are we learning about him?" "Why is he on... What dollar bill is he on?" We brainstormed the types of things a leader would need to do to start a new country and write short paragraphs about our thoughts. The next part of the lesson, which we didn't get to today, examines the difference between Hamilton and Jefferson.

We ended the day with a mini lesson on writing effective paragraphs. The kids asked lots of questions about how to turn the sentence frame I gave them into a full paragraph, so we took the opportunity to dig in.

Intently writing their paragraphs!
